Top Canadian Art Shows 2013 January 17 2013, 0 Comments

Canadian Art Magazine recently published the Top Ten Canadian Art Shows they are looking forward to in 2013. In addition to the Ai Weiwei exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario and a Mary Pratt retrospective in St John's, the National Gallery in Ottawa is preparing for a First Nations show.

A few years ago, National Gallery of Canada director Marc Mayer promised us a quinquennial of indigenous art; “Sakahàn,” meaning “to light a fire” in the language of the Algonquin, is the kickoff edition. With more than 100 works by 75 artists from around the globe, it aims to interrogate various cultural, political and social issues. This show opens May 17 and runs to September 2 of 2013.
