Soapstone Sculpture by Tony Curley, Inuit

Regular price $240.00 $0.00

Handmade by Inuit artist Tony Curley, this Swan's incredibly elegant neck and delicate features make a charming addition to your home. The deep seaweed greens and yellowing moss colourations of the soapstone capture the complexity found on the biodiverse shores lines of Cape Dorset. This swan comes into its element paired with a little partner or as part of a flock.

Tony Curley is a sculptor/carver based in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), NU. He has noted that he has “a natural instinct in my soul” for creating his artwork. Curley has been creating carvings for more than 30 years. He is inspired by Arctic wildlife that live in and around his northern community, and primarily creates carvings of animals such as bears and birds. Curley often carves with marble or serpentine; a firm, green, brown or black metamorphic rock from the lower region of Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin Island). His artwork has been exhibited in Canada and internationally within the United States, Germany and Switzerland.

Curley is part of the Cape Dorset artist collective. Find our more about the Cape Dorset Collective and the artist they represent here!
