Red Cedar Sculpture by Doug Horne, Coast Salish
Full of personality this vigilant owl sculpture by Coast Salish artist Doug Horne is hand carved in glorious red cedar. Enjoy the graceful curves and points of Coast Salish formline in his signature style.
Doug Horne trained with Doug and Perry Lafortune, as well as with his uncle, Francis Horne and has been carving on a full-time basis since 1998. Doug primarily creates work with traditional Salish crests and motifs, but he is especially interested in experimenting with unconventional forms and unique symbols. Doug is primarily a wood carver at this stage in his career and is known for his panels, sculptures and totem poles.
The Owl is a symbol of wisdom. The Owl is a great foreteller of weather conditions and can be observed to identify changes in environment. Owls are a reminder to take care with your actions, to think of the future and to love your family.
