These embossed art cards in gold, copper and silver feature the art of world renowned Haida artist Bill Reid. These designs are based on silkscreen prints and drawings completed by the artist in the 1970's and 1980's, many of which were inspired by Haida creation stories and legends. Skaagi are Supernatural beings who give up their life to feed our people. We hold them in high esteem and honour their return every year.
The Skaana (Killerwhale) is the guardian of the sea and is a symbol of solidarity, communication and longevity.
Xuuya (Raven) is a transformer and a creator, Xuuya placed the sun and moon in the sky so the world would have light and also put the trees on land and fish in water. This primordial creature opened the clamshell to release the first man. He is known for his knowledge, trickery and creativity.

Depicted here within the circle of a drum, the Xaxada (Dog Fish/Shark) represents independence and decisiveness. Xaxada is a common crest amongst the Haida and is often depicted with round eyes and a downturned mouth. They are solitary creatures that are often feared by those who must spend time on the open ocean.
Depicted here within the circle of a drum, the Ghuuts (Wolf) is a symbol of family, leadership and strength.
