Yellow Cedar Carving | Feather by Glen Edwards
Yellow Cedar Carving | Feather by Glen Edwards
Glen Edwards started carving in 1977, and he trained with Danny Baker and other Squamish carvers. He gained many of his ideas and aesthetics through the study of Salish and southern art. Glen has many pieces in private collections throughout Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States. He is well-known for his wall plaques, maskettes, and deep carving.
The Eagle Feather is viewed as a symbol of welcoming and hospitality among Native cultures throughout North America, as Eagle down is often displayed and spread at venues honouring special guests. In some groups, the Feather is used as a staff or talking stick, possessed by individuals of high rank. Since Eagles are now protected, their feathers are more valuable and respected than ever before. Eagles themselves represent pride, power, and friendship.
